BARRIE'S CONSOLE REPAIR BENCH

Xbox Won't Turn On At All? That's Usually Fixable — Here's How

No lights, no chime, no picture — not even a fan spin? That's almost always a failed power supply or board-level fault, not a dead console. Diagnosed properly and tested under load before it goes home..

No mailing it to Microsoft, no weeks-long wait. Diagnosis starts at $249 — repairs from there, though PSU or board-level fixes can cost more. We'll quote you before doing anything beyond the diagnostic, and if it's not fixable or not worth fixing, you'll know that too.

Is Your Xbox Actually No-Power — Or Something Else?

Before you book anything, here's the tell. Xbox no-power problems follow a pattern of their own — different from what you'd see on a PlayStation, but just as recognizable once you know what to check. Most people jump straight to "it's dead," when really it's almost always the same short list of symptoms showing up together. Match more than one of these, and you've likely found a power supply or board-level fault — one of the more involved repairs we do.
  • Power button doesn't light up at all when pressed — no flash, nothing
  • Fan doesn't spin, even briefly, when it's plugged in and powered on
  • You've swapped the power brick and tried a different wall outlet — no change
  • This isn't a "black screen on the TV" issue — the console itself shows zero signs of life
  • It worked fine last time you used it, then just stopped — no error codes, no warning
  • No drops, no spills, no damage before it happened
None of these sound familiar? It might not be a no-power fault at all — call us and we'll help you figure out what's actually going on before you book anything.

Yeah, You Could Probably Fix This Yourself

Sometimes Xbox no-power really is simple — a tripped internal fuse or a failed capacitor, the kind of fix YouTube handles fine. Other times it's board damage that takes real diagnostic skill just to locate. Not every dead console is worth saving. Find the fault fast, and it's a quick part swap. Turns into hours of chasing something with no guarantee? We'll flag the cost before it climbs — some repairs aren't economical, some aren't fixable. You'll hear that from us early, not after the bill.
— bring it in, we'll diagnose it properly and tell you exactly where you stand before doing anything further.

Why Ship It Away When It Might Not Even Come Back?

Microsoft doesn't diagnose your fault — they swap boards, so your save data and profile are gone regardless. Then it's 2–4 weeks in the mail, both ways. Drop it off in Barrie instead: we find the actual fault, tell you straight if it's worth fixing, and you get an answer in days.

What If It's Not a Simple Fix?

Sometimes it is exactly what it looks like. Sometimes it isn't. Here's what happens either way.
It's a Straightforward Fault
Sometimes this is a tripped fuse or a dead capacitor with a clear cause. We diagnose it, swap what's needed, test it fully, and hand it back working — starting at $249, no surprises.
It's More Involved
If we find deeper board damage once we're inside, we'll walk you through what we found, what a proper fix involves, and what it'll run — then you decide if it's worth chasing.
It's Not Fixable, Or Not Worth It
Sometimes the damage runs too deep, or repair costs beat the console's value. If so, we put it back together and hand it back as-is — you only owe the diagnostic fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Xbox Questions, Answered (Yes, Even The Ones You Feel Weird Googling)

HDMI and overheating have one clear cause and one clear fix — we know what we're looking for before we open the console. No-power can be a dozen different things: a blown fuse, a failed capacitor, a dead voltage regulator, deeper board damage. We have to test our way to the actual fault rather than swap a known part, which takes real bench time.

Usually 5–10 days. Straightforward faults can be quicker; anything requiring deeper board-level chasing takes longer, since we're testing methodically rather than guessing.

Honestly — it's not guaranteed. Some no-power faults are a quick part swap. Others turn out to be damage that isn't economical or possible to repair. We won't know for certain until we diagnose it, and we'll always tell you straight once we do.

We do everything possible to preserve your data, and it's usually intact — a no-power fault is a hardware issue, not a storage issue. That said, on more involved repairs there's a small chance the drive is affected, and we'll flag that immediately if we see it.

It happens. If the damage is too extensive or the cost outweighs the console's value, we reassemble it and hand it back as-is — you only owe the diagnostic fee, nothing more.

Yes — 90 days on parts and labour, same as our other console repairs, once a successful fix is completed.

Because the diagnostic itself is the hard part. HDMI and overheating are flat-rate because the fix is known. No-power pricing reflects the time it takes to actually find the fault, which varies console to console.

Less often than PS5 — Xbox no-power is a rarer repair for us, which means less repetition and pattern-matching than something we see daily. We treat every one carefully rather than rushing it, which is part of why it takes the time it does.

For a no-power diagnosis specifically, call or email ahead rather than dropping in. It's bench work that needs real focus, so we'd rather plan the time properly than have you wait around while we fit it in around other repairs.
