Summer’s over. The cottage is closed, the boat’s out of the water, and your PS5 came home with a problem it didn’t have in June.
Maybe the TV says No Signal. Maybe the fan sounds like a float plane taking off from the harbour. Maybe it doesn’t turn on at all after that August thunderstorm.
Here’s how to figure out what’s actually wrong, what it costs, and why late fall is the best time to make the drive down to Barrie.
Most consoles we see from the Parry Sound area come in with one of three problems. Each one looks different, and a few quick checks at home will tell you which one you’re dealing with.
The console turns on. The light comes on and you might even hear the startup sound, but the TV shows nothing.
Before you blame the port, try this:
If a known-good cable and a known-good TV still show nothing, the port is almost certainly the problem. This usually happens when a cable gets yanked, or the console gets packed up while still plugged in.
The fix is a board-level HDMI port replacement for $199 flat. We desolder the old port and solder in a new one. Swapping cables won’t bring it back. More on the PS5 HDMI port repair and Xbox HDMI port repair pages.
The console works, but the fan is louder than it used to be, and it shuts itself off in the middle of a game.
This is overheating, and cottage life is hard on consoles. Dust, pet hair, fireplace smoke and a summer of heat all end up inside the fan and heatsink. On a PS5, the liquid metal between the chip and the cooler can also shift over time.
Check that the vents aren’t blocked and the console has room to breathe. If it’s in an open spot and still shutting down, the problem is inside.
Our overheating repair is $170. It includes a full strip-down and cleaning, plus fresh liquid metal or thermal paste where the model needs it. Details are on the PS5 overheating repair and Xbox overheating repair pages.
No lights, no beep, nothing. Up north this one often shows up after a storm knocks the power out.
Try a different outlet and a different power cable first. If the console was plugged in during a storm, read our guide on PS5s that won’t turn on after a power surge before you do anything else.
No-power repairs are a different kind of job. They need proper diagnosis, can take 1–2 weeks, and start from $249, depending on what we find. We’ll tell you that upfront so you don’t drive down expecting to drive home with it the same day. See the PS5 no-power repair page for more.
You can fix your console any time of year. Fall has a few advantages, though.
The drive is easy right now. Parry Sound to Barrie is about an hour and a half down Hwy 400. In October and early November, it’s an easy trip. By January, it’s a different story.
Winter is gaming season. When the lake freezes and it’s dark at 5pm, a console that doesn’t work is a much bigger problem. Fixing it now means it’s ready when you actually want it.
Problems get worse, not better. An overheating console keeps cooking itself every time you play. A loose HDMI port gets looser. Waiting rarely makes a repair cheaper.
It’s one drive, planned so you’re not sitting around:
Your saved games stay where you left them. HDMI and overheating repairs don’t touch your storage, and we don’t wipe consoles as a precaution. Every repair comes with a 90-day warranty on parts and labour.
Sending a console away for repair usually means 2–3 weeks without it. The official route also costs more: Sony and Microsoft charge $269–$329 for the same HDMI port we replace for $199.
If you’d rather make one drive and be back up the 400 with it fixed by dinner, that’s what we’re set up for.
The full details are on our Parry Sound console repair page, including pricing, the drive, and answers to the questions we get most from Parry Sound gamers.
Or skip the reading and call or text (705) 481-1572. Tell us the model and what it’s doing, and you’ll have a price before you leave the driveway.
Parry Sound drop-offs get the same flat pricing as everyone else: $199 for HDMI ports and $170 for overheating. Both are usually done the same day once the part’s on hand, so you’re back up the 400 with it fixed by dinner.
