Your console is on the fritz, and the nearest place that will actually open it up and solder is a drive away. Fair enough. Before you load it into the car, five minutes of checking will tell you whether the trip is worth it and what the repair is likely to be.
The light is on, the fan is spinning, you can hear the startup chime. The TV says “no signal”.
Try this first:
If a known-good cable still shows nothing, or the cable only works when you hold it at an angle, you’re looking at a damaged HDMI port. That’s the most common repair we do. It’s not a software problem and no amount of resetting will fix it. The port has to be removed and a new one soldered on.
Cost: $199 flat, and we quote before we touch anything.
The fan screams, the console gets hot enough to feel through the case, then it quits in the middle of a match.
That’s overheating. Dust and pet hair clog the airflow, and on a PS5 the thermal compound stops doing its job after a few years of use. Moving the console to a more open spot helps a little. It won’t fix a console that’s already shutting down.
The fix is a full teardown, a proper clean, and fresh thermal work. On PS5s, that includes liquid metal where the model requires it.
Cost: $170, with a thermal test under load before it leaves the bench.
No light, no sound, no response. This is the repair nobody can promise a result on, and we won’t either.
A dead console could be a power supply, a short on the board, or something worse. We start at $249+ for a repair attempt, and the cost can go up if it needs a part like a power supply or a disc drive. We’ll tell you where it stands before you spend more than you meant to.
The manufacturer’s repair center can quote $269-$329 and two to three weeks for an HDMI port. That’s before shipping both ways. It’s also before the “we may have to wipe your console” warning that nobody enjoys reading.
Most shops closer to home are phone counters, and a phone counter sends the console out to someone else. We repair it ourselves, on our own bench, in Barrie.
The drive from Midland is roughly 40 minutes along Hwy 93 and Hwy 400. A few more from Penetanguishene. For HDMI and overheating repairs, drop it off before early afternoon and it’s usually ready that evening, as long as your part is on the shelf. One trip down, one trip home, console fixed. Your saves stay on the console because we’re doing hardware work, not resetting anything.
We’re at 474 Grove St E in Barrie with free parking right out front, open Monday to Friday 10am-7pm and Saturday and Sunday 11am-4pm.
