Put a failed HDMI port under a microscope and the damage is easy to see: pins bent flat, pads lifted or scorched, and sometimes the whole port pulled loose from the board. That's what we're dealing with before we pick up the iron.
A new cable won't fix this. The port has to be replaced.
A PS5 pulls air through a fan about the size of a dinner plate. A few years in an Elmvale farmhouse, cottage or basement, with the dust, pet hair and woodstove soot that comes with it, and the fan is packed solid. The noise is the first sign. A mid-game shutdown comes next.
It's not broken. It's clogged and running hot.
