Your console worked fine last night in alliston.

⚠️ READ BEFORE CONTINUING: Already tried a different cable and TV input? Then it’s the console, not your setup. HDMI port replacement is $199 flat and overheating repair is $170, both usually done the same day once the part’s on hand, about 35 minutes from Alliston. Send us a message and we’ll tell you what you’re looking at.

Today it’s either showing “No Signal” on the TV or shutting itself off halfway through a match. You’re in Alliston, the nearest shop that does board-level console work is in Barrie, and you’d like to know what you’re dealing with before you get in the car.

Fair enough. Here’s the two-minute version.

Step 1: Rule Out the Boring Stuff

Before you blame the console, spend 60 seconds on the things that aren’t broken but look like they are:

  • Try a different HDMI cable. Cables do die, just not as often as people think.
  • Try a different HDMI input on the TV, or a different TV entirely.
  • Check the power cable is seated firmly at both ends.
  • Unplug the console for 2 minutes, then plug it back in and try again.

If any of those fixed it, congratulations. You just saved yourself a trip. If not, keep going.

Step 2: Figure Out Which Problem You Have

Nine times out of ten, a PS5 or Xbox that’s acting up has one of two problems. They behave very differently, so this part is easy.

It Powers On, But There’s No Picture

The console turns on. The light’s on. Maybe you even hear the startup sound. But the TV says “No Signal” or flickers in and out.

That’s almost always the HDMI port. Look closely at the port on the back of the console with a flashlight. Bent pins, a loose or wobbly port, or anything that looks crooked or scorched is a dead giveaway. It usually happens after someone trips over the cable or the console gets moved with the cord still plugged in.

This isn’t something a software update or a factory reset will fix. The port has to come off the motherboard and a new one gets soldered on.

What it costs: $199 flat. PS5 HDMI port repair and Xbox HDMI port repair are the same price.

HDMI Broken? No Signal? Console Acting Weird? Let’s Fix It.

It Gets Loud, Then Shuts Itself Off

The console starts fine, but after 20 minutes or an hour the fan starts screaming like a hair dryer and then the whole thing powers off mid-game. Sometimes you get a warning message about the temperature first. Sometimes it just dies.

That’s overheating. A PS5 pulls air through a fan about the size of a dinner plate, and after a few years in a basement, a rec room, or a TV stand with a dog nearby, it’s packed with dust. On a PS5, the liquid metal that moves heat off the main chip can also shift over time and stop doing its job.

Blowing compressed air into the vents helps a little. It doesn’t fix the liquid metal, and it doesn’t clear what’s packed deep inside.

What it costs: $170 for a full teardown, cleaning, and liquid metal or thermal paste refresh. Here’s the PS5 overheating repair and the Xbox overheating repair.

It Won’t Turn On At All

No lights, no beeps, nothing. That’s a no-power problem, and it’s a different animal. It could be the power supply, a shorted component on the board, or damage from a power surge. These start at $249+ and can take longer to diagnose, so they’re not usually a same-day job. More on that on the PS5 no-power page.

Step 3: Decide If It’s Worth the Drive

Here’s the honest math for Alliston.

Option 1: Mail it to the manufacturer. Expect $269–$329 for an HDMI port, 2–3 weeks without your console, shipping both ways, and a decent chance your console comes back wiped “as a precaution.”

Option 2: Fix it yourself. You’ll need a hot air station, a decent soldering iron, flux, magnification, and steady hands. If you’ve never soldered a multi-pin port onto a motherboard before, the PS5 is an expensive console to learn on. One slip and an HDMI repair becomes a no-power repair.

Option 3: Drive to Barrie. It’s about 35 minutes from Alliston via Hwy 89 and the 400. HDMI and overheating repairs are usually done the same day once the part’s on hand, so you drop it off in the morning, run errands at Georgian Mall or Costco, and pick it up that evening. Your save data stays where it is, and every repair carries a 90-day warranty.

If you’re coming from Beeton or Tottenham, add about 10 minutes.
